Remove the connector to check for discoloration, or in my case, scorched and wasted remains.

The EV-Ranger has a number of poor electrical connections.ġ) The 10-pin output plug on the charger provides full power through two weak little pins in the 10-pin receptacle on the vehicle.

Other folks here have the exact same problem.īad Charger Output Plug Causes Six-Flash Error Code If I'm right, it's sad that Polaris made that mistake in the first place and that they haven't corrected it at least by my model year. I also think the connectors just don't produce a tight enough connection. I believe the wiring harness from Polaris is just big enough to work when everything is new but once resistance builds up with aging batteries, corroded connections, heat and whatever else, it reaches the tipping point which produces the intermittent refusal of the Delta-Q to charge. It works great! Multiple charges now and no red blinks. But then it connects into Polaris' wiring harness and the wires that continue to carry the charging current are significantly smaller.Īfter a couple promising tests, I bought 12' of marine 10 gauge duplex wire, put it in flexible conduit and routed that from the charger to the batteries following same route as the main wiring harness and using zip ties to keep it away from the steering column and the drive shaft. I'd say the short pigtail coming out of the Delta-Q is a fairly beefy 10 gauge. I went out and look at the charge carrying cables going from the charger to the batteries. We don't have any longer than 8-12 feet because of the wire gauge it takes to handle that current. But my brain linked that up with what the tech said about extension cables for their golf cart chargers. I don't know which wires they were talking about. In a thread, someone was complaining about the size of wires in the harness and that it hadn't been corrected in the following model year. I'd already ordered the new charger but then something the tech at clicked in what I'd read elsewhere on this forum. Like someone said elsewhere on this forum - charging a 48v battery pack isn't rocket science after all.

I finally reached my limit and decided to dump the finicky Delta-Q and get a 48v golf cart charger.
